After previously focusing on Asia’s place in Polish foreign policy and prospects  for economic cooperation, this year’s Asia-Pacific Day will concentrate on the security and political situation in the region.

Experts from top analytical institutions in the Asia-Pacific will present the Asian perspective regarding the recent developments taking place on the continent. The panelists will discuss, among others, how the regional balance of power and security is affected by the rise of China, including its Belt and Road Initiative. What does the American vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific mean to the region? Will denuclearization talks lead to a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and improve the stability of East Asia? What are the main traditional and non-traditional threats to security and international law in the region? And how can the European Union become a more prominent security and political actor in the Asia Pacific region?

In the second session, Polish parliamentarians and government representatives will reflect on the significance of processes taking place in the Asia-Pacific region for Poland? What interests, aside from economic cooperation, does Poland have in this region? Does the non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council give Poland an opportunity to influence the situation on the continent? Why perseverance of international laws in the region is important for Europe? What effects will the US-China rivalry in Asia have on Polish foreign policy? And how can parliamentary diplomacy help advance  Poland's goals in relations with Asian countries?
