In its online service, the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM) makes use of cookie files, which are sets of data stored by servers in a user’s computer. Each time a connection is made from the computer, the data are read by the server. Cookie files are applied by PISM Website for the purpose of keeping alive the session of an internet user browsing the Website, which in turn is used to generate site visit statistics, identify the e-bookstore basket of an un-logged user, authorise the session of an internet user logged into the e-book store, and select the Website’s language version. The files last until the end of the session.
Web browser software allows for cookie files to be stored, by default, in the user’s end-device. At any time, the Website’s user may change cookie files settings, e.g. towards blocking automatic cookie support in web browser settings, or towards requiring notification each time a cookie is installed in the user’s device. For more information, see the settings of your web browser.
Using the Website without changing cookie files settings means that PISM is allowed to store and access data in the user’s computer.
