The seminar focused on three issues:
§ The results of the Chicago Summit and the DDPR Follow-up: Overall Deterrence and Nuclear Policy of the Alliance;
§ Re-Building trust between NATO and Russia: Role of Transparency and Arms Control Measures;
§ Perspectives on Contemporary Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Challenges and Mechanisms to Tackle Them.
More than 40 participants took part in the seminar, including former
high level politicians, officials and military leaders who are members of the
ELN Board; representative of the Polish administration; foreign and Polish international
security experts. Minister Bogusław
Winid, Undersecretary of State for Security Policy in the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented the Polish assessment of the results of
the Chicago Summit. Other participants
of the seminar included Kjell Magne Bondevik, former Prime Minister of Norway, Lord Browne of Ladyton,
former British Defence Secretary, Igor
Ivanov, former Russian Foreign Minister, Wolfgang Ischinger, Chair of the Munich Security Conference, Linas Linkevicius, adviser to the Prime
Minister and former Defence Minister of Lithuania,
Ana Palacio, former Spanish Foreign
Minister and former vice-president of the World Bank; Adam Daniel Rotfeld, former Polish Foreign Minister, and Volker Rühe, former
Defence Minister of Germany.
